MOTHER, WIFE, ANIMAL LOVER, EMPANADA MAKER - the artist, muralist

Silvia Román (“Donkeemom”) was born in Chicago, IL, and raised in Mexico. She discovered her affinity for art when she was assigned to sketch at her elementary school. As she developed her skills, Sylvia grew a following and was able to sell her work, starting at first with her detailed figurative drawings and progressing to complex studies in paint. However, when she married at 19 and moved to Houston, she took a hiatus in her arts career.

She dedicated her time and her new life in Houston to taking care of her two sons and her husband. It wasn’t until her youngest son, Alex, started following in her artistic footsteps that she was able to revisit her passion for the arts. Alex grew to become the iconic Houston muralist Donkeeboy under her guidance. When she saw how serious her son was about the arts, the artist within her was reborn and was never to be hidden again.

Sylvia’s work has been featured in Houston, TX at the East End Street Fest, where she collaborated on a live painting of Selena with Donkeeboy. She is also part of five annual art shows at 8th Wonder Brewery in Houston. Some of her art collectors include  influencer and radio personality Devi Brown and rapper/comedian Chingo Bling. She is currently working on a new art collection, book, and on her own Donkeemom clothing line.
